"I found I could say things with color and shapes that I couldn't say any
other way -- things I had no words for." ~ Georgia O'Keeffe

A Bit About Dianna

Growing up in Wyoming gave Dianna Fritzler a strong sense of space and appreciation of a shape that propelled her journey into art. The wide-open spaces, broken only by an occasional cluster of trees, cows, or ranch buildings, gave her a deep appreciation of simplicity and prospective. The tranquilizing stillness of her surroundings infused harmony and serenity into her bones and the people imbued a strong sense of honesty, determination, humor and appreciation of the basics.

Fritzler graduated from the University of Wyoming with a degree in journalism and public relations. She then embarked on a career in advertising and PR in Denver, CO. Meanwhile, she continued to develop her passion as a photographer of black and white images, a hobby that began in college.

Within two years of sprinting in the frenzied corporate world, Fritzler took a hiatus that changed every aspect of her life. She backpacked around the world for a year with a friend, stopping at every art venue available. The artistic highlight of this journey was traveling with a friend, Scott Fraser, a master of contemporary realism. While navigating through Italy and Greece, he expounded upon the history and nature of fine art painting. Fritzler was smitten with art and knew it would be a life-long love affair.

Upon returning from her travels, Fritzler resumed her career in Denver, eventually opening an advertising/PR agency, marrying and starting a family. After several successful years, and at the end, feeling that her life was directing her instead of visa versa, she sold her advertising agency and moved with her family to western Colorado.

The exquisite beauty of the landscape beckoned Fritzler to dive deeper into her photography and her passionate and joy-filled dance with fine art. When the only darkroom available to the public closed, Fritzler transferred her artistic "voice" to oil painting. The creative spark was further flamed and she transferred her photographic eye for strong composition and the use of lights and darks into her colorful paintings.

In speaking of her art, she says, "I am fascinated by nature; from snowy peaks to lusty eggplants. I celebrate it all through my paintings. Painting is the nucleus of serenity for me. When I paint, I retreat into the profound journey of living in the moment with complete awareness, acceptance and joy. My ultimate goal is to impart that feeling to others."

"Red has become my core color. From there everything else emerges," Fritzler notes. With solid outlines, she defines distinctive spaces and planes. She then layers oil paint, sometimes scraping away to reveal colors beneath the surface. There can often be five or more layers of paint each applied with a variable technique, from scrubbing lightly with and assortment paintbrushes to applying dense blankets of paint with a palette knife.

Her work is collected internationally and can be seen at La Mesa Gallery in Santa Fe, NM, Act 1 Gallery in Taos, NM, Evergreen Fine Art, Evergreen, CO, The Blue Pig Gallery, Palisade, CO and her studio in Grand Junction, CO.

Arist's Statement

There is no greater life celebration for me than painting. All the elements of my journey - heart, soul, spirit, family, friends and body gently collide on the canvas.

I start each painting by asking for guidance to fill my bright red canvases with joyful images. From there, ebony lines and shapes emerge to provide a sturdy footing for the journey of color. With the exuberance of child who has just received her first pack of 64 crayons, I impetuously play and push pigments about my palette.

After layering paint like phylo dough, I unearth bedrock colors and impulsively enshroud others until total contentment surfaces. With a scratch of my signature I conclusively send my greeting in jubilance. And that, my friend, is my offering to you and the universe.
